This old thread refers to an outage that occurred 6 months ago and was resolved the same day.
There was no service outage today. Service is up - and has been continuously up.
Our status logs (and our customers) would let us now if there was a problem.
Kindly check your internet connectivity and try again - and let me know if you still see a problem.

We've made an update to our code that should optimize response times somewhat, possibly by 10 to 15%.
Also - In our review - we see no difference in response times between your page and our TTS demo here:
Please try again and let me know. The mechanism used for playback is the same so it should function the same.

Vocalware uses the same platform as SitePal so the performance should also be identical to your page.

In revisiting this issue - I'd like to add that the code was revised shortly after this discussion to ensure that attempting to initiate speech on a mobile browser before page is activated will not cause an error.
